Forensic Web & Social Media Acquisition

Preservation of web pages, videos, posts and social media content with chain of custody and certified timestamp enforceable against third parties. Digital evidence that holds up in court.

At a glance

An online content you need as evidence could disappear tomorrow. We preserve it today, through a process that certifies what was there, where and when, with full evidentiary value.

Preservation with legal standing
Certified and enforceable timestamp
Documented chain of custody

A screenshot is not enough: a judge can reject it because it proves neither when it was taken nor whether the content was modified. Our forensic acquisition downloads the original content, calculates its cryptographic fingerprint and seals it with a certified timestamp issued by an accredited authority. The result is evidence with a certified timestamp enforceable against third parties.

Acquisition of complete web pages (HTML, resources, metadata)
Preservation of videos on streaming platforms
Acquisition of posts, profiles and comments from social media
Ongoing monitoring with scheduled acquisitions
Cryptographic hash on every single acquired artefact
Structured and signed acquisition report

Why choose this service

Not a screenshot, but evidence

A screenshot can be altered, has no certified timestamp and a judge may not admit it. Forensic acquisition is a documented, verifiable and repeatable process.

Before it disappears

A video can be taken down, a post deleted, a page modified. We preserve the content in its current state, now.

Monitoring over time

Some cases require documenting the evolution of content: daily or weekly acquisitions, each with its own report, linked together in the chain of custody.

What we acquire

Any content accessible via a browser can be acquired using forensic methodology:

  • Web pages: the entire HTML content with all associated resources (images, CSS, scripts), not a screenshot
  • Videos: from streaming platforms, downloaded in the original format with all metadata (title, author, publication date, view count, language)
  • Social media: posts, comments, profiles, stories, reviews from any platform
  • Ads and listings: online advertisements, product listings, price lists
  • Forums and communities: discussions, threads, public messages

For every piece of content we also acquire contextual metadata: publication date, author, interaction counters, geographical availability. These details can make the difference in a proceeding.

Our process

1

Acquisition

The content is downloaded in its original form using dedicated tools. Every artefact is saved separately: original file, metadata, page screenshot.

2

Hashing

We calculate a cryptographic hash for every single acquired file and an aggregate hash for the entire session. Any future alteration would be immediately detectable.

3

Certified timestamp

The aggregate hash is sealed with a certified timestamp issued by an accredited authority. This attests in an enforceable manner when the acquisition was performed.

4

Acquisition report

We draft a structured report documenting the operating environment, tools used, exit network, operations performed, outcomes, hashes and certified timestamp.

5

Archiving

All material is delivered in an encrypted archive with verifiable integrity. The case file is ready to be submitted in court as-is.

6

Verification

Any independent expert can verify the integrity of the acquisition: simply recalculate the hashes and compare them against the certified timestamp. The process is entirely reproducible.

Ongoing acquisitions

Some cases require documenting the evolution of content over time. For example:

  • Verifying daily that a defamatory video is still online
  • Recording variations in a misleading commercial advertisement
  • Documenting the persistence of content published in breach of copyright

For these scenarios we carry out scheduled acquisitions - daily, weekly, or as needed - each with its own standalone report, linked to previous ones through the chain of custody. The result is a case file that reconstructs the entire history of the content.

What we deliver

For every acquisition you receive a complete case file:

  • Original artefacts: acquired files in their native form (video, HTML, JSON metadata, screenshots)
  • Cryptographic hashes: for every single artefact and aggregate hash for the session
  • Certified timestamp: issued by an accredited authority, enforceable against third parties
  • Acquisition report: structured PDF document with all details of the procedure
  • Encrypted archive: all materials in a protected archive, delivered securely

When you need it

  • A competitor publishes defamatory content about your company
  • A video or a post infringes your intellectual property rights
  • A user publishes fake or defamatory reviews
  • Your lawyer asks you to “save that page” before the lawsuit
  • You need to prove what was on a website at a specific date
